The Resilient Mission Coalition, a group dedicated to combating domestic violence, has arrived in Grady County.

What is the Resilient Mission Coalition?

The Resilient Mission Coalition, a collaboration between Cairo-based Mission Vision Foundation and the Vashti Center’s Resilient Communities of Southwest Georgia coalition (RCSWGA), serves youth organizations in southwest Georgia and aims to create a supportive environment for children and families impacted by trauma.

Zoom in:

  • In rural areas, geographic isolation and limited transportation options make it difficult for children and families to access support services. Those seeking assistance often travel three times farther to reach the care they need than those in other locations.
  • The Resilient Mission Coalition is working to address these challenges by providing resources in nine southwest Georgia counties: Brooks, Colquitt, Decatur, Early, Grady, Miller, Mitchell, Seminole and Thomas.

By the numbers:

  • 193 domestic violence-related fatalities were recorded in Georgia in 2022.
  • 17,682 children in Georgia were identified as victims of domestic violence in 2023.

What they’re saying:

  • Rural Southwest Georgia communities often go underserved,” said Quan Grant, one of the coalition’s organizers. “We’re just bringing together all of those resources that some people may not know are available.”
  • I feel really good about [the program],” said Kaci Collins, a local high school senior. “I feel like I can be more open with my peers and adults.”

What to watch: Check out this broadcast from WTXL ABC 27 reporter AJ Douglas, who covered the program’s launch celebration in Cairo, Georgia.
